10. TRAINING and DEGREE in RESEARCH

 

1985 to 1986 : Commonwealth Medical Fellowship (DM/2/86) awarded by the Association of Commonwealth Universities from 14/4/86 to 13/4/87 to perform research into Pregnancy Hypertension at the University of Nottingham., ENGLAND. The training in research methodology included extraction of enzymes from biological tissues, handling of Radio – active chemicals, in – vitro conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin, chromatograghic separation of eicosanoids and use of a Beta counter to determine the proportionate conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin E2.

 

1987 to 1990 : The clinical component of the work for the “Control  of  Prostaglandin Synthesis in Hypertensive Disease of Pregnancy : Effect of Low Dose Aspirin” was continued at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Colombo under the supervision of Prof S. H. P. Nanyakkara and Prof E. M. Symonds of the University of Nottingham.

 

1991 : Doctor of Medicine (by Research) from the University of Colombo on the above work presented in the thesis “Control  of  Prostaglandin Synthesis in Hypertensive Disease of Pregnancy : The Role of Endogenous Factors and the Effect of Low-Dose Aspirin.

13. Reproductive Health Development through Private Sector Enterprise.

 

1998 to date : Chairperson of VINDANA REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CENTRE (Pvt) Ltd.  This is a private sector enterprise which is a Board of Investment Approved project. It aims to provide the complete range of advanced reproductive health care by a team of dedicated professionals.

 

1999: Delivery of the first group of babies conceived by Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), in collaboration with a team from Singapore.

 

2002: Delivery of the first baby conceived by Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) by a Sri Lankan team. The team has continued to introduce additional advanced technology to Sri Lanka.

 

2005: Winner of the National Science and Technology Award, by the Ministry of Science and Technology through the National Science Council  for transfer of Technology to Sri Lanka and Team Work.

 

 

 

 

14. Special Awards:

 

     2000 : Presidential award from Her Excellancy the President of the Democratic        Republic of Sri Lanka for Excellence in Research.

     

      2005 : Member and Leader of the Team which was selected as the Winner of the National Science and Technology Award, by the Ministry of Science and Technology through the National Science Council  for transfer of Technology to Sri Lanka and Team Work.

 

      2005 : The Chief Guest at the Annual Prize Giving 2005 at Ananda College, my Alma mater. Colombo, Sri Lanka.
