ORATION

 

1.     SLMA Oration 2008. The SLMA oration is the most prestigious oration awarded by the Sri Lanka Medical Association for medical research in Sri Lanka. The title of the oration delivered by me on 19 March 2008 was “Genetics of Pre-eclampsia and the Weight of Babies at Birth”.

1.     Young Scientist Award. Awarded by the Asia Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  2011.

 

NATIONAL

 

1.     Presidential Awards for Research for the year 2003. This was awarded at a ceremony held on 27 July 2010.            

 

2.    Third World Academy of Science & National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka – Young Scientist Award for Scientific Excellence 2008. This award was made by TWAS and NSF at the National Science and Technology Awards 2008 ceremony on 13 December 2008.

 

3.    The Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) 2008 for Medical Research. This award is made by the Junior Chamber International Sri Lanka to ten outstanding young Sri Lankans every year. In 2008 I was one of the recipients of this award. The award was presented on 12 September 2008.

 

UNIVERSITY

 

1.        University of Colombo Research Award 2008. This award was made by the University of Colombo in Recognition of Excellence in Research in the Year 2008 at the Postgraduate Convocation on 6 September 2009.

Colombo, Sri Lanka was awarded to the paper titled Absence of Y chromosome microdeletions in a Cohort of Male Partners from Couples with Spontaneous Recurrent Pregnancy loss. [see below for details]

 

4.      One of the outstanding poster presentation awards at the International conference on Frontiers in Molecular Life Sciences. September 16 -18, 2009. Colombo, Sri Lanka was awarded to the paper titled. Polymorphisms in the Tumour Nectosis Factor Genes and Susceptibility to Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in the Sri Lankan Population.  [see below for details]

 

5.       The price for the best paper at ICOGEN ‘07, International Conference and Workshop on Genetics: The basis and diagnosis of genetic disorders. February 1-4, 2007. Chennai, India was awarded to the paper titled “Chromosomal abnormalities in Sri Lankan women with primary amenorrhoea.” [see below for details]

 

6.      S. E. Seneviratne Prize; Sri Lanka Medical Association, 119th Annual Scientific Sessions, 2006; was awarded to paper titled “The prevalence of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase 677>T polymorphism in the Sri Lankan population.” [see below for details]

 

7.       The third prize for oral presentations. The British meeting of the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy, 2003; was awarded to the paper titled “the urine protein heat coagulation test is a reliable screening test for proteinuria in pregnancy.” [see below for details]

2.       Asian Internal Travelling Fellowship: Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) – 28 January 2000 to 16 February 2000. I attended the 3rd Congress of the AFSM in Oman and visited Sports Medicine facilities in Oman, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. In all these countries I made presentations on Genetics in Sports Medicine and Gender Verification in Sports at Sports Medicine Seminars.
